OVERKILL [Thrash Groove Metal] [SUA]
Istoria trupei începe în 1980, în New Jersey, SUA, din ruinele unei trupe punk, „the Lubricunts”, ajungând să fie una dintre cele mai apreciate formații de thrash metal de pe Coasta Estică, alături de un alt grup consacrat al scenei internaționale ce va urca pe scena Rockstadt Extreme Fest: Anthrax.
După mai multe variante respinse de membrii noii formații, proiectul muzical ajunge să fie numit „Overkill”, la fel ca binecunoscutul album Motörhead. Overkill au fost, de altfel, singurul grup dintre primele trupe de thrash metal americane care au semnat cu o casă de discuri importantă, Atlantic Records, în 1986, și a devenit apoi parte din valul de formații thrash metal foarte populare în anii ’80 pe continentul american (din care fac parte și „Big Four”).
Se spune că trupa a atras atenția scenei underground americane încă de la demo-ul „Power in Black”, care a circulat intens și a inspirat fani și noi trupe deopotrivă, precum Exodus sau Testament. În 1985, apare primul EP, „Overkill”, care a fost sold out la scurt timp după lansare și a contribuit la creșterea popuarității formației până la punctul în care au semnat cu cel mai influent label independent dedicat genului heavy metal, Megaforce Records. Astfel a început drumul către succes.
Albumul de debut, „Feel the Fire” (1985), a fost primit cu entuziasm de critici și de fanii genului thrash metal, fiind considerat drept o capodoperă a genului și contribuind la consacrarea popularității și poziției trupei ca unul dintre „motoarele” noului curent muzical al Coastei de Est Americane a anilor ’80. Debutul a fost urmat de un turneu intensiv prin Europa, alături de Anthrax și Agent Steel, urmat apoi de turneul „Reign in Blood” din America de Nord, unde Overkill a cântat ca opening act pentru Slayer.
Succesul comercial a continuat și cu cel de-al doilea album, „Taking Over” (1987), care a ajuns pe locul 191 în Top Billboard 200. Următoarele materiale („Under the Influence” – 1988, „The Years of Decay” – 1989, „Horrorscope” – 1991, „I Hear Black” – 1993 sau „W.F.O.” – 1994) s-au bucurat de aprecierea publicului, a criticii de specialitate, intrând în Top Billboard 200.
Overkill au continuat să câștige popularitate, cu ajutorul următoarelor albume lansate pe piață „The Electric Age” (2012), „White Devil Armory” (2014) și „The Grinding Wheel” (2017), obținând vânzări de peste 16 milioane de bucăti.

The band’s history begins in 1980, in New Jersey, USA, from the ruins of a punk band, „the Lubricunts”, becoming one of the most appreciated thrash metal bands on the East Coast, along with another established band on the international scene which will at Rockstadt Extreme Fest: Anthrax.
After several band name options rejected by the members of the new band, the project is called „Overkill”, as the well-known Motörhead album. Overkill was, in fact, the only group of the first American thrash metal bands to sign a major record label, Atlantic Records, in 1986, and then became part of the wave of very popular thrash metal bands in the 1980s of the American continent (of which the „Big Four” also belong).
The band is said to have attracted the attention of the American underground scene since the „Power in Black” demo, which circulated intensely and inspired fans and new bands alike, such as Exodus or Testament. In 1985, the first EP, „Overkill” was released, which was sold out shortly after its release and helped to increase the band’s popularity to the point where they signed with the most influential independent heavy metal label, Megaforce Records. Thus began the road to success.
