Biografie

Body Count este o formație americană de heavy metal formată în Los Angeles în 1990.

Grupul este condus de Ice-T, care s-a impus mai întâi ca rapper, dar a co-fondat grupul împreună cu chitaristul Ernie C, datorita interesului lor pentru muzica heavy metal.

Ice-T este vocalistul formației și a scris versurile pentru majoritatea melodiilor lui Body Count. Ernie C este responsabil pentru compunerea muzicii grupului.

Stilul muzical al lui Body Count derivă din tonurile întunecate ale trupelor tradiționale de heavy metal, cum ar fi Black Sabbath și trupe de thrash metal precum Slayer, precum și din agresivitatea punk-ului. Potrivit lui Ernie C, „Am vrut să fim o mare trupă punk. Primul nostru album este aproape un album punk„. Prezența unui rapper ca vocalist într-o trupă de heavy metal a deschis calea pentru ascensiunea rap metalului și a nu metalului.

Ice-T nu face rap pe majoritatea melodiilor Body Count și el consideră că Body Count este doar „o altă trupă rock”.

Versiunea BODY COUNT a melodiei „Comfortably Numb” este o nouă interpretare a piesei clasice PINK FLOYD care explorează teme de detașare și introspecție. Versurile noi profunde ale lui Ice-T, fac din piesa o fuziune a istoriei rockului și a energiei brute și moderne. Ice-T a declarat: „Pentru mine, „Comfortably Numb” este o melodie introspectivă. Eu sunt mai în vârstă acum. Transmit acest mesaj generației mai tinere, ai două opțiuni: poți menține focul aprins sau poți renunța. Eu încerc să dau un sens la ceea ce se întâmplă, dar și să subliniez că suntem cu toții într-un loc în care nu trebuie să ne confruntăm unul cu celalalt. Realitatea este că avem televizoare cu ecran plat și floricele de porumb și putem doar să stam pe spate și să urmărim haosul din lume ca și cum ar fi o emisiune TV. Putem sta așa amorțiți (numbed) și trecem asa prin viață.”

David Gilmour a declarat: „Versiunea BODY COUNT a lui „Comfortably Numb” este destul de radicală și cuvintele m-au impresionat cu adevărat. Mă uimește că o melodie pe care am scris-o acum aproape 50 de ani a revenit cu această nouă abordare grozavă. Au făcut-o din nou relevantă.”

Albumul Merciless

Versiunea lui BODY COUNT a „Comfortably Numb” apare pe cel mai recent album al trupei, „Merciless”, care a fost lansat pe 22 noiembrie prin Century Media.

În ceea ce privește motivul pentru care a durat patru ani pentru a finaliza albumul „Merciless”, Ice-T a declarat: „Am lansat albumul „Carnivore (Fuck Vegans)” în martie 2020 și atunci a inceput pandemia. Nu am apucat niciodată să facem un turneu pentru album, deși aveam aproximativ 40 de concerte stabilite în Europa. Casa de discuri ne-a transmis ca „Mai vrem un album! Am fost, de genul, „Ce? Vreți să facem un alt album foarte repede?! Tocmai am câștigat Grammy (Cea mai bună performanță de metal” din 2021 pentru „Bum-Rush)”. Eram la un nivel foarte ridicat și a fost dificil să scoatem un alt album, timpul a trecut și am facut albumul „Merciless”.
